A PLOS One study protocol (published 16 July 2026) lays out a sequential explanatory mixed-methods plan to develop a quality-improvement intervention for School-Based Support Teams (SBSTs) in Gauteng secondary schools. The protocol combines a cross-sectional survey (target n = 440 from an estimated 6, 042 learners), a scoping review (2015 to 2025 literature), and 20 SBST interviews, then pilots a pre–post intervention.
